Many lesions on the skin can be caused by small blood vessels. These can lie close to the skins surface making them very visible. Commonly affected areas are the face and legs. The lesions tend to grow with time so early, small lesions are more easily treated.
Intense pulse light and laser treatments can be used effectively to treat these lesions. The filtered light is absorbed by the blood vessel and it is heated to a point where it is destroyed, without causing damage to the surrounding tissue.
The vessels are quickly re-absorbed by the body, leaving no trace of the original lesion. Most fade quickly, some immediately. Occasionally a few treatments are required for a successful result.
Most people describe a redness and warm sensation immediately following treatment. This settles quickly. Very rarely, a change in the skin colour may be noted, either lightening or darkening. These effects are usually temporary.
