Dermal Fillers
Introduction
As we get older the amount of healthy elastain and collagen tissues in the skin's structure decreases, causing wrinkles and sagging. Smoking, sunlight and alcohol speed up this process.
Dermal fillers can be used to treat lines and wrinkles on the forehead, crow's feet, mouth and lip lines and naso-labial folds (between the nose and corner of the mouth).
How do Dermal Fillers work ?
A dermal filler consists of a gelatinous fluid that is injected into the problem area, to gently fill out the wrinkle giving smoother, younger-looking skin. You will notice an immediate result following the treatment, which will continue to improve over the next 7-10 days.
How long will it last ?
One treatment can last up to 12 months. The product used in the Beacon Clinic (JUVEDERM®) contains hyaluronic acid, a substance that appears naturally in our skin to promote healthy collagen and elastain growth. Gradually this substance is naturally and harmlessly degraded within the skin tissues. Top up treatments are usually suggested every 9 to 12 months.
What does the procedure involve ?
Your first treatment will take about an hour. After a thorough assessment, a local anaesthetic cream is applied to the area to be treated for about 15 minutes. This gently numbs the skin. Very occasionally, a local anaesthetic injection may be suggested. The product is administered in a series of small injections along the line of the wrinkle. This is usually painless.
What happens afterwards ?
Immediately afterwards there may be slight swelling and redness around the injection sites. This will subside after 12-24 hours.
Are there any long term side effects ?
This is a very safe and simple treatment when performed by our experienced doctors. Long term side effects are almost unheard of with this product.
